Nevin Snow, son of former LBSS X student Mary Brigden, has won US SAILING’s Chubb U.S. Junior Sailing Singlehanded Championship.  Nevin competed against 19 competitors from across the United States in Laser Full Rigs and takes home the Smythe Trophy.  Each competitor qualified to compete in the Championship by placing either first or second in their respective District qualifier.  Snow is a member of the San Diego Yacht Club, host of this year's Championships. Earlier this spring, Nevin and his high school classmates won the ISSA High School National Championship.

In the Bemis Trophy competition, Alex Curtiss and Kate Hall of Lake Forest tied for second place, but lost the tie breaker, settling for the bronze medal in the Club 420 class.  Click here for results .

Nevin's mother Mary sailed in the X class and M-16 class on Lake Beulah until 1977.  In 1975, she and her sister Irene won both the WYA and ILYA Senior Fleet Class X Championships.  The latter was sailed on Geneva Lake with 120+ cub boats starting on one line.  The Brigden's moved to Pewaukee in 1977 where they continued to sail scows.  Mary later graduated from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD before being commissioned in the Navy.  She campaigned in the 470 class for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Seoul, Korea.  At the US Olympic Trials, Mary lost a close battle, finishing in second place to the eventual Olympic Gold Medalist Allison Jolly.

Congratulations to Nevin and the Snow family.
