171 sailors competed at the 2009 USODA National Championship in California.  Hosted by Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club, sailors from across the United States competed.  With good winds and many opportunities to sail and bail, Axel Sly of Ft Lauderdale, FL took home the title over Christopher Williford, Wade Waddell, and Duncan Lamphere.  Duncan, who lives in Lake Forest, IL, won two races out of the 13 sailed.  He won last summer's ILYA Optimist Championship and earlier this summer finished 3rd at the IODA European Championship.

Also competing at Nationals from the Midwest, were Clay Danly of Lake Bluff, IL (6th),  Minnetonka's Ben Garber (28th), and his brother T-Money Garber (102nd).  Chicago Yacht Club's Rose Edwards, coached by Beulah's Steph Roble, finished 85th overall.  All five of these sailors have competed in the recent past on Lake Beulah.  No sailors from LBSS competed in this year's USODA National Championship due to conflicts with the ILYA Class X Championship.

Lake Beulah Yacht Club is the host of the upcoming 2009 ILYA Optimist Dinghy Championship.
