Cloudy skies welcomed the sailors to the Lake Beulah Yacht Club for the 2011 LBSS Opti Regatta. Hosted by the Lake Beulah Sailing School, the sailors and coaches prepared their boats for both Championship and Green Fleet courses. Winds started from the south east at 5 to 8, but shifted throughout the day to the southwest. Championship Results Green Fleet Results
Championship Fleet: Five races were completed in the Championship Fleet. Henry Chapman of Nagawicka won the first race which was sailed in light, southeast winds. Recognizing a persistent shift to starboard, Alex Keck of LBSS won the second race going away. Patrick Schmidt of LBSS won the third and final race prior to the break for lunch. In the afternoon, wind speeds grew to 10 to 12 from the south west. In race 4, Joseph Fontana of Geneva correctly read the starting line and successfully port tacked the fleet along with Quin Frazier of Geneva. While Quin was unable to keep pace, Fontera raced out to a large lead before taking home a race win. As the sailors prepared for the final race, three skippers found themselves within six points of first place. Alec Bischoff of LBSS took home the race win, but Henry Chapman finished 2nd, taking home a well earned title. Chapman's average finish over the five races was 3rd, followed by Bischoff's average of 4th, and Schmidt's 4.6. John Barr of LBSS and Alex Keck rounded out the top five. Erin Sullivan of LBSS was the top female finisher. Green Fleet: On a separate course, thirty two (32) skippers were offered seven races under the watchful eyes of shared coaches. Meta Simon sailed a consistent series which included four race wins. Meta was followed by Michelle Horning and Olivia Chapman in second and third, respectively.
